Technology stocks rallied ahead of news that Hewlett-Packard was looking to buy out EDS in a deal that could be worth up to US $13 billion. Among the sector’s Dow components, JPMorgan added 1.4%, America Express was up 2%, Bank of America gained 2.2% and Citigroup was mostly flat. Elsewhere, FedEx was mostly 'flat' ..

I was enraged to hear so much news coverage about the murder of Chris Wootton, a white fraternity student at UC Berkeley. Why? Because last fall, a dark-skinned Latino student, Rod Rodriguez, was confused for a gang member and murdered. He too was a UC Berkeley student. He, however, was virtually unnoticed by the media and campus at large.
