Hot trends for April 16, 2008

Lately, every day feels like Groundhog Day in the political blogosphere. Conservative bloggers continue to direct most of their fire at Barack Obama, portraying him as an out-of-touch elitist with radical views. Meanwhile, liberal bloggers are simultaneously defending Obama against these attacks while going on offense against John McCain, portraying him as an unabashed hawk, an economic ignoramus, and a hypocrite on campaign finance reform. However, it's apparent that the anti-Obama narrative i
"A True and Defensible Populism"
Wed, 16 Apr 2008 10:44:14 PDT
That's how Patrick Deneen puts it. If Obama's gaffe has had any kind of meaningful consequence in the political life of America at this moment, it is that it has forced some truly brilliant political observers and thinkers--Patrick foremost among them--to reflect on class divides, class perceptions, and how both of those phenomena haunt even populist efforts to bridge them (or, perhaps more accurately, to empower those on one side of the class divide). I cannot do better than to quote him a leng
Ask the Body Shop!
Wed, 16 Apr 2008 10:48:13 PDT
Hey y'all! Some of you may know that I used to work at The Body Shop back in the day. I loved the job... learned a lot, and made some lifelong friends. It was a blast! One thing I remember especially was watching the training videos for the then-newly released makeup line. I loved The Body Shop's head makeup artist, Chase Aston, both for his helpful tips ("bend the mascar wand when applying to another person's lashes") and his lurrrvely accent. So when I got the opportunity to ask Chase some of

Speaking at the Las Vegas Writer's Conference
Wed, 16 Apr 2008 10:54:14 PDT
Speaking at the Las Vegas Writer's Conference I am taking a couple days off from my law practice to work on my so-called writing career. The Las Vegas Writer’s Conference, which is sponsored by the Henderson Writers Group, is being held this weekend at Sam’s Town. The Henderson Writers group publishes anthologies of short stories by its members. The latest, Writer's Bloc II, contains one of my short stories: "The Lost Art of Conversation. " I'm not quite, sure, but I think the book will
Frontier (FRO) on Wallstrip…Runaway Trends Continue..Oil, Metals, Agriculture…Where they Stop NOBODY KNows
Wed, 16 Apr 2008 10:56:10 PDT
Too many people calling for tops in Gold, Oil, Euro, other metals and Agriculture. Combines with their strength and basic momentum, they are busting out to new highs all over the place. The railroads are doing the same thing. Today, we take a look at Frontline (FRO) on Wallstrip. Brian also takes a look at the technicals for the stock: None of these areas are sexy, easy to understand, or fun to own (even though they are since they go up every day), but the trends show no signs of impend
Undie Awards raise money for cervical cancer
Wed, 16 Apr 2008 10:56:36 PDT
Something as simple as voting for your favorite underwear can contribute to the awareness and research of preventing cervical cancer. More importantly, if 100,000 people to vote, $25,000 will be donated to The National Cervical Cancer Public Education Campaign. HerRoom.com is hosting their annual Undie Awards during April in conjunction with Cancer Awareness Month. The annual contest lets men and women cast their votes for their favorite brand of underwear. This year, HerRoom.com will donate

Historians Speak for History
Wed, 16 Apr 2008 10:58:41 PDT
…insofar as how it will remember George W. Bush. President Bush often argues that history will vindicate him. So he can’t be pleased with an informal survey of 109 professional historians conducted by the History News Network. It found that 98 percent of them believe that Bush’s presidency has been a failure, while only about 2 percent see it as a success. Not only that, more than 61 percent of the historians say the current presidency is the worst in American history. “Informal” is right. Wh

Trend Alert: You Can’t Help But Be Happy When Dressed In Bright Colors
Wed, 16 Apr 2008 11:02:47 PDT
Of all the spring 08 trends, I’m most excited that the designers en masse have gone cuckoo for color. After a dreary (and seemingly endless) winter, I’m drooling at the prospect of a lively, fresh spring wardrobe. I’m also ready to throw my black DKNY wool trench into the fireplace. Any day now… The great thing about the bright color trend is its versatility – you can go nuts with color, or just add a few accent pieces to your warm weather wardrobe and liven up your look that way. Of course, th

When we made it to Metallo Arts exhibit and saw this vent hood, the first question was of course, if it works.
